History collection

The collection comprises mainly objects of local origin (from the Kroměříž area or the former district of Kroměříž) plus a collection of oriental objects from the inheritance of the Kroměříž native Jan Rypka. The collection documents mainly the period from mid-18th century to the 20th century, it was systematically developed for the newly constituted Municipal Museum in Kroměříž (1933). At the beginning there were predominantly items from the collection of Jindřich Slovák, donations from the Kroměříž municipality, local entrepreneurs, legionaries, etc. After World War II the collection grew with additions brought in from various noble houses around the district, and partially also by some items from the diocesan museum constituted by the archbishop’s archivist Antonín Breitenbacher. From the 1950s the collecting activity continued to focus on the region. There are numerous edged weapons and firearms, clocks, pewter, shooting targets, oriental objects, household utensils, items of everyday use, World War II memorabilia and models of historical buildings.
