Ethnographical collection

Evidence of material culture from the south-eastern Haná region from the 19th and 20th century form the core of the collection. Following a connection with the Open-air museum in Rymice, from the 1970s the collecting activities of the museum focus on working, household, and agricultural tools and utensils. Traditional hand crafts are represented mainly by baskets and wicker products from Morkovice, blacksmith’s and saddler’s tools and products. There are also folk artefacts – paintings on glass, wooden sculptures, ceramics, and Easter eggs decorated with straw. A textile collection comprises clothing items from the 19th and 20th century, and a specific part of the collection pertains to year 1948 when an important exhibition was held in Kroměříž, in reaction to which came a massive revival of the traditional folk costume. Textiles and embroideries document the primary interest of the regional ethnographers in ornament. The collection continues to grow with acquisitions and gifts, with an ongoing emphasis on documentation of rural life in the south-eastern Haná region.
