12 September – 9 November 2025, Gallery in the arcades
Join us on a fascinating journey with the photographs of Jindřich Buxbaum (*1953), a renowned photographer from Nová Hradečná by Uničov. His work draws from a deeply personal story – his father, Auschwitz survivor, and his Jewish identity had become the key sources of inspiration and themes for Buxbaum’s lifelong work.
The exhibition will take us to Jewish communities all around the world – from Israel to Prague, Mikulov, Bratislava, London, Antwerp, Kyiv, and Vienna. Buxbaum’s works capture unique moments in the life of these communities, from powerful yet gentle portraits of holocaust survivors to intimate scenes from the yeshivas of Jerusalem, Kyiv, or London.
The exhibition includes the cycle of the Seven Blessings, covering the annual commemorations (remembrance days) in seven places associated with rabbis and tzadiks. Buxbaum photographed these special days, full of spirituality and mysticism, in Mikulov, Holešov, Bratislava, Leżajsk and Lelów in Poland, Uman and Medzibizh in Ukraine. Over the past few years, he has focused on photographing Chassidic Jews celebrating the rediscovered remembrance days in Poland and Hungary, and on documenting family celebrations that revive the ancient Jewish traditions.
